Our volunteers tackled a part of Otter Brook Preserve we had not previously visited for invasive plant work. A group of five volunteers cut bittersweet growing along Route 123 in the northern-most part of the preserve. What they found was astounding-a bittersweet vine with a stem measuring 3.5″ in diameter! It took some sawing, since no one thought a power tool would be needed, but the deed was done, and the volunteers posed with their trophy.

Our thanks to these and all the HIPP volunteers who work to clear invasive plants from Harpswell’s woods. We will battle again, on October 7 at the Curtis Farm Preserve. Meet us there at 8:30 a.m. to join in the satisfaction of beating back invasive plants!
