Our season gets underway on Saturday, May 4 at the Curtis Farm Preserve (1554 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell). Work begins at 8:30 a.m. near the parking area off Route 123. We plan to work until 11:30 a.m. cutting back the dead invasive shrubs that were treated last summer. Volunteers are welcome to join in the fun!

We have gloves and tools, but you are welcome to bring your own. Loppers, pruners and small saws are useful for this task. Also, a small tree has fallen in the work area, so a large saw or chain saw will be of help. We will be hauling the woody materials a short distance to our “burn pile” next to the parking area.

Insect repellent is always recommended when working near invasive plants. Bring your own or use the HIPP supply. For more information, contact us at [email protected]. Stay tuned for more updates on work at Johnson Field Preserve on Bailey Island and other sites. Dates have not yet been determined, but there are always invasive plants to tackle!
